About Yttrium
Named after the Swedish village of Ytterby, the source of four element names. Used in LEDs to produce white light. Yttrium-aluminum-garnet lasers are used in industrial cutting and medical procedures. Used in superconductors that work at relatively high temperatures. Added to magnesium and aluminum alloys for strength.
