About Scandium

Named after Scandinavia where it was discovered. Used in aerospace alloys with aluminum to increase strength. Added to mercury vapor lamps to simulate sunlight. Very expensive due to difficulty of extraction. Only about 400 kg are produced globally per year. Used in baseball bats and bicycle frames for lightweight strength.
