About Niobium

Named after Niobe, daughter of Tantalus in Greek mythology. Superconducting at 9.2K, the highest critical temperature of any elemental superconductor. Used in MRI magnets, particle accelerators, and jet engines. Niobium-titanium alloys are the most common superconducting wire. Brazil produces about 90% of the worlds niobium. Also called columbium in the USA.
