About Thulium
The rarest of the stable rare earths, named after Thule, the mythical farthest north. Portable X-ray machines have used thulium-170 as a power-free radiation source. Thulium lasers are used in surgery. So scarce that it was among the last pure rare earths isolated, and global production remains a few tonnes a year.
