About Holmium
Has the highest magnetic strength of any element, so it concentrates magnetic fields in the strongest man-made magnets, used in research and medical scanners. Named after Holmia, the Latin name of Stockholm. Holmium lasers are used in eye surgery and dental procedures, and holmium absorbs neutrons in nuclear control rods. Another of the Ytterby discoveries.
