About Europium
Named after Europe, just as americium would later honor the Americas. The most reactive rare earth metal, stored under oil. Europium phosphors create the red in old television screens and the marks that glow under ultraviolet light in euro banknotes. Also used in fluorescent lamps, LEDs, and anti-counterfeiting tags. One of the least abundant rare earths in the crust.
