About Astatine
The rarest naturally occurring element on Earth. At any moment the entire planet holds perhaps 25 grams, as fleeting traces in uranium and thorium decay. The only halogen with no stable isotope, it was first made artificially in a cyclotron and only later found in nature. Most of its properties are estimated, since no one has ever seen a visible sample. The name means unstable in Greek.
