About Antimony
Used in ancient Egypt as kohl eye makeup. Flame retardant in plastics and textiles. Used in lead-acid batteries to harden the lead. Antimony trioxide is the most important commercial compound. The name may come from anti-monachos, monks poison, as many alchemists were monks. China produces about 80% of the worlds antimony.
